If yes, join in the 2023 SICLE Greek Language Student Competition for a creative experience with a chance to win prizes!

This competition is open to all students in NSW from Kindergarten to Year 10 who study the Greek Community Language (at afternoon/Saturday schools, Secondary College of Languages, NSW School of Languages, mainstream schools, or students of private tuition). There are prizes for the best entries in every category.

The 2023 SICLE Greek Language Student Competition is under the auspices of The Secretariat General for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy and

What do I do?

Category 1 – Years K to 2

‘My family and me’

‘Η Οικογένειά μου και Εγώ’

Draw and label a picture of yourself/your family/your relatives/your pets or anyone important to you. You could choose any occasion you like: an everyday situation, a celebration, an excursion, a family gathering, etc. Everything and everyone in the picture should be labelled in Greek.

Category 2 – Years 3 to 4

‘A Visit to Greece’

‘Μια επίσκεψη στην Ελλάδα’

Make a PowerPoint (maximum 8 slides), an e-book, digital storytelling or short film in Greek describing an actual or imagined visit to Greece. Describe the places, sightseeing and features of the environment you visited, or you would like to visit. Why did you like this place? Or why would you like to visit this place? Maximum 70 words or maximum a three-minute recording either by yourself or jointly with 2-3 classmate students.

Category 3 – Years 5 to 6

‘A Visit to Greece’

‘Μια επίσκεψη στην Ελλάδα’

Make a PowerPoint (maximum 10 slides), an e-book, digital storytelling, or short film in Greek describing an actual or imagined visit to Greece. Focus on places, sightseeing and features of the environment. Be as descriptive as possible and at the time write about your feelings and impressions with regards to the specific place you have chosen, e.g., why this place is important to you. Maximum 100 words or maximum a four-minute recording either by yourself or jointly with 2-4 classmate students.

Category 4 – Years 7 to 10

‘What Learning Greek
Means to Me’

‘Τι Σημαίνει για Μένα να
Μαθαίνω Ελληνικά’

Create a PowerPoint (maximum 14 slides), an e-book, digital storytelling, or short film in Greek. Your work should present a clear, coherent, and engaging reasoning about your experience of learning Greek. What does learning Greek mean to you? Your imagined audience could be your fellow students, or other members of your school community or family. Maximum 200 words or maximum a five-minute recording either by yourself or jointly with 2-4 classmate students.

Are there prizes?

Prizes for first, second and third place, along with highly commended awards, will be given for each category entries. All students, teachers and schools participating in this competition will receive a certificate of participation.

Winning entries will be announced in Term 4. The award ceremony will take place in early November 2023 (date to TBC) at The University of Sydney.

The prizes will be donated by sponsors from the broader Greek Australian community in Sydney and they will be given as e-vouchers to winners.

  • There is a limit of FIVE submissions per category per school.
  • All work must be the student’s original material (including audio, video, text, and images). In the case of images being used from the internet, the resource must be acknowledged.
  • Parent/caregiver and student (over 12 years of age) must complete and sign the Permission to Publish form. If the student’s entry is successful, the teacher will be asked to email this form to the Greek Project Officers as a prerequisite for prize giving.
  • Save a copy of your entry as a PDF file or format as MP4 video before you submit.
  • Upload your entry using the online entry form below.
  • Any communication about this competition will be done among teachers and the Greek Project Officers.
  • Most importantly, BE CREATIVE AND HAVE FUN!
